While you may know a thing or two about Google’s search algorithm, the juicier details remain as something of a mystery. The Spain SEO industry relies largely on the information that Google has made public, and on studies that have been conducted on Google’s web page indexing and ranking system. A recent study conducted by an online marketing company—reports Tina Courtney-Brown of SiteProNews—has discovered some surprising characteristics of web pages at the top of Google’s search engine results pages (SERPs).
SEO is constantly evolving, and you’ll need to analyze the latest findings to stay ahead of the competition. There’s a tendency for confusion to ensue, especially when practices are put to use without validating their supposed benefits. Spain SEO companies, like ReSEOlve, regularly consult credible studies and research findings to help them understand the methodologies Google employs in their indexing and ranking systems.
Researchers randomly selected 100 keywords ranging from 2 to 6 words, then analyzed only the first 5 results in each Google search; this allowed them to create a test pool of 500 different web pages for closer analysis. Google Adwords, news articles, and images were excluded from the test cases to ensure that only actual web pages were studied. Their findings were pretty startling.
First, researchers discovered that over-optimizing web pages with keywords doesn’t improve its rankings, and can actually be detrimental to SEO. Only 50 percent of the web pages in the top 5 results contained keywords in the title tag, while 43 percent had it in the header. The message was pretty clear: avoid adding the keywords more than once, and create content that sounds natural.
Second, photos and videos don’t add optimization value to web pages (although it makes the content more credible and formal). Of the 500 analyzed web pages, the average number of photos was 7, and a lot of them didn’t have any images at all. Videos didn’t fare any better, having less than one per page average.
Third, there can be no effective SEO without the aid of social media. The highest ranking web pages were tweeted hundreds of times, and were liked and shared on Facebook thousands and hundreds of times, respectively. While the study couldn’t determine if Google kept close tabs on social media pages, it’s clear that social media is instrumental in getting noticed on the World Wide Web.
